What about summer nights is it that makes us nostalgic of childhood memories? Do we feel young, alive? Is it it the city lights, the ocean waves, the sand in our toes? Or the noise of the carnivals, boardwalks, bright lights, and amusements? Maybe it is the sound of the kids playing after dusk, and the ice cream truck selling ice cream at 9 pm. Maybe we reminisce about the kisses under the stars with butterflies in our stomach waiting for that kiss. Maybe that is what makes us feel young, untamed. Maybe that is what summer nostalgia is all about.
These thoughts bring us to those nights of sitting on the back of a pick up truck in shorts and a tank top, playing music as loud as it will go dancing on the hood! Bronzed skin, glossy lips, the smell of tanning lotion, and if your my age, well my favorites back then, electric youth perfume and exclamation perfume! 🙂 Or the smell of a summer storm approaching when the wind picks up and you hear the thunder roar. Oh those summer nights!!
I miss the feeling of being lost in ourselves, the freedom of no responsibility, and staying awake all night long! Summer nights still make me smile and reflect. It will always be time of happiness, and joy. Even at 46, i can reflect, remember, and recreate the most memorable time of year besides christmas.
I LOVE YOU SUMMER!! 😉
